__ARCHIVEDTALK__
Proposals, November 2016
{{sport-official-stub}} / Category:Sports official stubs or Category:Sports official biography stubs
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed creation of the stub template and/or category above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the template's or category's talk page (if any). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was created as sports-official-bio-stub.
Pursuant to last month's discussion of the well-meant Category:Referees stubs, I ran a PetScan and came up with over 500 articles that could be sorted under {{sport-official-stub}} (referees, umpires, etc.). If we can create this broad stub type now, perhaps later it can be diffused into sub-cats, if necessary. (Also, please check that I've formatted template and category correctly!) - ETA: tweaked the formats, hoping I got it right this time...) Her Pegship (talk) 18:47, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- I suggest that this should be linked to d:Q27531628. – Fayenatic London 08:45, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- For those of us who don't know what wikidata does...what does it do? Her Pegship (talk) 18:17, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Originally it was used to replace the interlanguage links that linked, say, London to fr:Londres. Now it does a whole lot more, and I fear that our page WP:Wikidata may be out of date. You may find d:Wikidata:Introduction to be more useful. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:08, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

- I will create {{sports-official-bio-stub}} and upmerge it to Category:Sportspeople stubs for now. Her Pegship (talk) 19:17, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- The term 'referee' is used as the standard term for match officials in association football, and also ice hockey (I believe). Why can't this remain and be a more specific sub-stub of the new/proposed 'sports-officials' stub? GiantSnowman 07:57, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
- As I posted in two other places, creating the sports official biography stub type is the first step toward sorting out various types of officials and seeing which sub-types will need their own templates. Also, as mentioned above, the referee template is incorrectly formed and created out of process. There is no question as to whether "referee" is an appropriate or commonly-used term, only whether the stub type is viable. Her Pegship (talk) 20:54, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

The result of the debate was do not create.
It seems odd that we don't have a stub for settlements or villages. There are plenty of stubs on small towns that could be sorted into this new stub. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HenryMP02 (talk • contribs) 03:37, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- Mostly these are covered by the various xxx-geo-stub templates, see sub-categories of Category:Geography stubs. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:14, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
