The "Don't edit this line XXX" templates are a core part of the automated taxobox system, and so high use, but as of January 2019[update], the tool did not count their transclusions, as they are only used from Lua.
This template may have no transclusions, because LUA tranclusions are not tracked by the tool.
Templates in the "Don't edit this line XXX" family are used to extract information from a taxonomy template (i.e. a template whose name is of the form "Template:Taxonomy/taxon"). They are invoked by calling a taxonomy template with |machine code=XXX, since the first line of every taxonomy template begins
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">{{Don't edit this line |...</syntaxhighlight>
They are intended only for use by the automated taxobox system. They are mostly used from within Module:Autotaxobox.
