HouSecCon or HOU.SEC.CON is an annual cybersecurity conference in Houston, Texas. It focuses on bringing together experts, students, enthusiasts, and professionals to discuss emerging threats, innovative solutions, and best practices in information security.
History
Established in 2010 by Michael Farnum and Sam Van Ryder, the conference has grown to become a prominent cybersecurity gathering in the Houston area and the broader Southern United States.[1][2]
Programs and Features
The conference features a variety of programs including keynote speeches, breakout sessions, technical villages, workshops, and networking events. The agenda typically covers a wide range of topics, from technical aspects of cybersecurity to policy, management, and ethical considerations.[3][4]

HOU.SEC.CON has been featured keynotes and sessions by several notable cybersecurity experts, including HD Moore, Jeremiah Grossman, Lesley Carhart, Chris Roberts, Jennifer Minella, Jayson Street, Dave Kennedy, Rob Lee, Mark Weatherford, Ira Winkler, Jack Daniel, and others.[5][6]
Talent Development
HOU.SEC.CON also emphasizes the development of cybersecurity talent through the TAB Cyber Foundation, partnerships with cybersecurity educational institutions such as CompTIA, and encouraging professionals who have not spoken at a conference to submit talks to the call for papers.[7]
Specialized Events
HOU.SEC.CON has also branched out into several other specialized cybersecurity educational events to create focus on cybersecurity in operational technology (OT.SEC.CON)[8], cybersecurity leadership (EXEC.SEC.CON)[9], and cybersecurity user interaction (HSC User Group).[10]
Digital Presence
The founders of HOU.SEC.CON have also created the HOU.SEC.CAST podcast to provide a regular outlet for highlighting past and future speakers, as well as other cybersecurity professionals, at HOU.SEC.CON.[11]
