- Your Edits seem a bit of up, down, down. If you don't mind my asking, could you explain why? Also in what circumstances would you accept a case or decline a case? Is there any special cases? Also could you do a whois for 91.210.106.55 and tell me the contact and any other relevant information? -- DQ (t) (e) 22:00, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, I can tell you about my edits. I prioritize ongoing events into a 2x2 matrix that looks like the following:
Urgent Not Urgent Important Not Important
- Ordinary anti-vandalism editing is, compared to other activities in my life, neither important nor urgent and so is put on the back burner until I have spare time to do something "fun" (which is how I view maintaining the generally high quality of Wikipedia by reverting anti-vandalism and helping people learn what they need to build good quality articles). Despite my definition of fun and belief that Wikipedia is generally the highest quality encyclopedia, I believe I am more of an Eventualist than I am an Immediatist, unless it looks like self-serving non-notable spam or patent nonsense, both of which should be dealt with swiftly (for instance, templates which conflate business/laws schools of widely varying calibers merely because they share a common sports history and marketing schemes, which seems pretty spammy to me).
- If I was to be doing abuse reports again, that would be assigned a higher urgency/importance, based on what exactly I was doing. As far as 91.210.106.55 goes, it looks like that's the IP for an ISP run in the Czech Republic: Mir Telematiki, Ltd. If I were contacting them, I would first try to contact:
Peter Chayanov c/o Mir Telematiki Ltd Usacheva 19
Moscow
Russia
119048phone: 7(499)246-3587 Boris Kazakov c/o Navitel Rusconnect 19/2 Lva Tolstogo ST
Moscow
Russia
119034phone: 7(903)771-0920 e-mail: borkaz@nconnect.ru - Those contacts may not work, however, since the contact information was recently updated by nconnect.ru for Peter and helios-net.ru for Boris. A number of spammers run bots through them and those spammers have been pretty busy recently. nconnect's activity has picked up in the last month according to the European registry. nconnect's contact information is pretty sparse, just ulp@hostkey.ru while helios-net.ru is noc@ipdvb.ru although both of them run their registrations through two more companies, an American and French one, respectively, although this is quite likely "useless" information. - Sorry, wasn't on to see this response when it happened. I will cmt soon. -- DQ (t) (e) 01:38, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, please don't take this personally, you seem like you would contribute greatly to this project, however the answer saying that it "may not work" makes me worry that you would send a false report and close the case without it actually being resolved. I am going to stay "Neutral-" on this one. Sorry... JoeGazz ▲ 01:43, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I understand your concern. I merely mean that contact information may be out of date enough that a first contact attempt may not actually result in anyone being contacted and that further attempts to contact responsible parties would then be necessary. Banaticus (talk) 18:31, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I see, I am curious, since not all ISPs give a response, how would you know if it got through? I am not trying to be mean, merely making sure we know what you mean. JoeGazz ▲ 21:19, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Offhand, I'd say that if a couple weeks goes by without a response, then another one should be sent. Let me note in passing that an automated response is still a response and doesn't necessitate a further contact attempt for the same thing. If another couple weeks goes by with no response, then it's probably time to try to contact someone else. It's not Abuse response's job to try to push people into helping fix a problem that Wikipedia might be having with vandalism, but in the absence of any response at all it seems like I could only presume that the contact attempts hadn't been noticed or that the contact information was no longer valid and that I should keep trying to contact someone, but I would want to give people a couple weeks in between contact attempts and not keep jumping down their throat because they didn't respond right away. For instance, if I had an email response like:
This is an automated response to your recent communication about whatever it was you emailed us about to advise you that we have received your message. We are not able to provide status updates or feedback on individual users or bugs, however, our QA team may contact you if further information is needed.
Thank you.- And then never got any other sort of reply, well, I'd still count that as a response and I'd be satisfied with that. Banaticus (talk) 21:22, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, that is actually a very elaborate answer, however, If you get two different ISPs just ask someone else to double check, and if for some reason no one can find which it is, just send the email to both. But yeah. I can live with that answer! JoeGazz ▲ 22:45, 1 February 2011 (UTC) Vote changed to soft support.

Questions
- What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
- Some of my main contributions on Wikipedia has been vandal fighting and reversing, i have made many contributions in this area of reverting blatant vandalism in articles. As well as report vandals to wp:aiv as well as wp:uaa. I also have some experience in Wp:CSD and Wp:AFD i feel this is important to my Wikipeida contributions because of some malicious articles that are being witting and others that just don't meet Wikipedia guidelines.
- What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
- I have a very long contribution list in which show my history in regards to reverting vandalism i use many well know tools know to Wikipedia users such as Igoo and Huggle which is my main source to revert vandalism
- Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
- I have previous experience in this area however i was removed from being a member at one point for unkonwn reasons.I am very excited to help out in other parts of wikipedia as well and expand my knowledge

- Cautious Oppose I am sorry, I must oppose at this time, I saw you just got involved with other things on Wikipedia like ACC and can get overwhelmed. ACC calls for extreme attention to detail and we generally like to see people who are going to focus on this. You are just getting involved so please take it slow for a few months and apply again later... JoeGazz ▲ 01:40, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Soft Oppose As per Joe, ACC does demand a lot of attention as does ABU... if you are willing to concentrate on ABU, then I may change my vote to support depending on your answers from DQ. - Rich(MTCD)Talk Page 01:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Commment: Acc as you know is active at times and as well as times is very dead and no request at all i focus on every aspect of Wikipedia equally. I don't feel just because being in ACC disqualifes a person to do contacts in ABU.Staffwaterboy Critique Me 02:00, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- I nor Rich ever said that, we also see you are working with vandalism and are involved in other aspects, we like to see some time in the other aspects before accepting here. You should take it slowly and focus there and then in some months, re-apply here. I am staying with my Oppose and actually think you are a little "eagar" to get in, which can in turn, cause you to rush and mess up. Sorry... JoeGazz ▲ 02:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose - Sorry but at this time I don't think you're ready to join the project; project members should be able to decipher a WHOIS, not just copy and paste bits that correspond to questions given by a member of the project, I'm not implying that you can't decipher a WHOIS but you should be able to answer the question simply by providing a direct answer not sections of the report itself. Take some time to look at past nominations and closed abuse cases and familiarise yourself with the project and how it runs/works and then come back in a few months. Continue your work at ACC, juggling between various extraordinary areas of Wikipedia can be quite tedious and demanding. —Ancient Apparition • Champagne? • 6:17pm • 07:17, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

- Bearing in mind that the given abuse emails aren't the best avenue for communication, what would you do were you not to get a response?
- If i am unable to contact a company or ISP thought email my next course of action would be calling the organization as well as the ISP.If the Company or ISP is located overseas it is possible to use online faxing to send them complaint if needed. However this is not the most recommended with the expenses that come with it.
Staffwaterboy Critique Me 02:42, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- It looks like you just copied parts of the WHOIS, you don't really tell us how or what you contact. You also have poor grammar and that is VERY important when contacting ISPs. I am sorry, I am going to Strongly Oppose to this now, I think you need to wait, we need to see more of your IP work, you need to slow down and possibly get a better idea of WHOIS reports. Questions

- I've contributed to a wide variety of areas, such as vandal-fighting, copyright vios, a little bit of SPI, some work at MEDCAB. All over the place.

- Hey MacMed, few questions for you:
- Do you have any record that you were a coord before as I can't find any? (doesn't matter if you do or not to me)
- Can you give me a reason why we do not report accounts/suspected IPs?
- As we are not WP:SPI we cannot report accounts. Doing so would require checkuser, which is not permitted for this purpose. The responsible organization has no record of who User:AbuseGuy is, and we cannot identify the responsible IP address. If by suspected "IPs" you mean IP addresses we suspect to be related to an abusive username, then the reasons are the same as above. We cannot reliably connect IP to username.
- Can you explain how blocks work these days (since you have been out for over a year)
- Blocks are a technical restriction on editing placed by administrators for a certain period of time. It can be difficult to block IPs since they can be dynamic or used by a group (not technically, just that there has to be quite a fair amount of vandalism or a very solid reason to defend the block).

- What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
- I have made numerous good contributions to the encyclopedia. My best include Witness Insecurity and Timeline of the Fukushima nuclear accidents.
- What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
- I have experience in numerous areas such as copyright violations and anti-vandalism. I have had a Wikipedia account for just about three months however I have been editing from an IP address for over a year. Questions
- What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
- I would say that most of my contributions on Wikipedia relate to anti-vandalism efforts. I am also involved in activities such as Wikiguides and the USPP project. I welcome new editors frequently, and sometimes offer advice on how to go about editing Wikipedia. My major content contributions are probably this and this. I have had no blocks in the past, and have not been involved in major disputes. I also contribute frequently to many Indic language Wikipedias, though I don't think that'd be relevant here. I also help out the folks at ACC
- What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
- Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
- I want to join the abuse response project because, well, I want to lend a hand in this fight against vandalism! I believe I can do well here.

- My contributions is well, reverting vandalism, reporting vandals, editing articles to make them good, and making articles.
- What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
- My experience is that well, after I used Twinkle, then the rollbacks, and now using Huggle. I used those to report vandals to admins.Right now, I use Huggle mostly for reverting vandalism and report users. I always check the Recent Changes to see anything suspicious.
- Why do you want to join the abuse response project?

We contact users Internet Service Providers after they have had several cases of continuing abuse (i.e. minimum 5 blocks, etc.). - Neutral You've been around for a while, but 64.4% of your edits are automated. And yes, that is vandalism fighting and an important part of WP maintenance, but I would like to see more involvement in WikiProjects or other collaborative efforts before joining the Abuse Response team (4% of edits to WP-space). However, your answers above are good, and you seem to understand the process. If there is someone willing to take Damirgraffiti on as a student of sorts, or work through a case or two with him/her, then I would be willing to support. - Very Weak Support - Yes I have gone inactive on your case kinda, because I've been busy. I see that you make lots of automated edits. That doesn't always show knowingness of how to actually write. I see you can do whoises (?), and you know how to read reports, but I just don't know about work elsewhere. I say a weak support... JoeGazz ▲ 00:12, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- SupportSeems technically competent, and I have no qualms with automated edits. At the end of the day, no edits are automated - they're all seim-automated, i.e tools such as Huggle/Twinkle only speed up edits which the user would otherwise do manually. An experience is vandal fighting is an obvious must for this project, and this candidate has that. Good luck :) Acather96 (talk) 17:16, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hello there. Is it ok to be a reqester, then be a investigator and then a contactor? Is it fine to do so. Just asking. For example, I report a abusive IP user, then I decided to investigate by myself, and when I'm done, I contact. Is it ok to do those by yourself without anyone investigating? --Damirgraffiti ☺Say Yo to Me!☺ 01:12, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

- Support and close as accepted This has been out 28 days, i'm in shock. Looking over, answers are mostly correct, just remember (as far as I know) APNIC is just another DB and is not to be regarded as the owner or contact. -- DQ (t) (e) 16:16, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Questions
- What are your primary contributions to Wikipedia? Please address any blocks/AIV threads you may have here.
- I deal with many areas related to vandalism. Most often, I do recent changes patrolling, and sometimes new page patrolling. I also regularly contribute to UAA as an unofficial clerk, which deals with the username policy, and various forms of vandalism. As for content, I also do little gnome edits, and occasionally help with AFC. Finally, I often help with ACC.
- What experience do you have in dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia?
- Why do you want to join the abuse response project?
- It has come to my attention that this is an important area which is unfortunately rather inactive, from what I've heard. I'd be glad to help out, and think I'm fit to do so in terms of knowledge.

- Does somebody want to post an IP quiz for me to complete? — Waterfox ~talk~ 02:26, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- Question for Candidate - Not that I'm bias, why do you wish to join the project now? It's inactive because no one is really reporting anything. There are plenty of members who can respond, we just need some cases... JoeGazz ♂ 02:03, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with WP:RIG and the general "Why not?" philosophy. Seeing that EBE123's nomination was 28 days overdue, it seems that no one is actively watching the project. After familiarizing myself with the project, if I do get elected, I may submit some propositions to improve it. — Waterfox ~talk~ 02:26, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- I sincerely apologize for all instances of "canvassing" I may have unwillingly/unknowingly created. If you are here to discuss the phenomenon of canvassing, please reconsider - this was by no means intended. I wish you believe that I do expect from this discussion to provide feedback as possible on my suitability for objectively treating abuse reports. (I already know that my invitations to participate in the discussion were wrong merely because of the confusion they caused - there is no need to repeat that.) None of the people I invited to participate were called to support, they were asked to provide feedback. I know them merely as experienced participants in the project, editors with their own strong judgment, and I do praise their critique just as much as applause. I merely wanted to know what they (and others here) honestly think about me, and like mentioned before, my suitability to participate in the abuse response venue. — Waterfox ~talk~ 18:07, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- On a side note, I am an experienced Python programmer and am proficient in PHP to an extent. As such, I would be happy to help MacMed with the development of the Abuse Response interface tool, which I've heard is in development. — Waterfox ~talk~ 18:43, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

- Support This candidate is very knowledgeable in this field and as my inactivity with this project would be a good add-on. Remember guys, my talkpage and email are just around the corner if you need me for something. :) -- DQ (t) (e) 16:07, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Support - Appears to be very good on vandal fighting and other type of things that are automated (i.e. Twinkle, Huggle). Good luck. I"ll see you around sometime on this project.Oppose - After seeing JoeGazz84 and Ebe's comments, it regretfully changed my mind to oppose. Sorry.--Damirgraffiti |☺Say Yo to Me!☺ 20:58, 29 July 2011Support – As above.Oppose Even though the IP quiz answers are correct, he has canvassed. If we do an error in contacting the service providers, there will be consequences. ~~EBE!@#~~talkContribs11:43, 31 July 2011 (UTC) (REVISED ON 11:26, 9 August 2011 (UTC), 11:12, 11 August 2011 (UTC), 10:42, 16 August 2011 (UTC))
- Strong Oppose - This user has canvassed for this application along with other applications on a stealth level. Canvassing is a huge demonstration of immaturity and mistrust. I don't trust this user to pay attention to detail. This is not the first time I've had concerns with the maturity of this user, and I don't expect it to be the last. We are the front like of contacting PROFESSIONAL organizations about abuse where we have to be 101% sure that our information is correct and valid. I, as well as others, don't like the thought of someone immature handling this responsibility. JoeGazz ♂ 16:27, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- See my comment above, sensibly. Summarily, I apologize for any undue invitations to participate in the discussion, and I pointed out that such invitations aren't canvassing per se, since the invitees weren't called to support, but I simply drew attention to the nomination and asked some people to provide feedback. Having said that, I will not perform such invitations in the future. Also, feel free to go over the other maturity concerns which make you unwilling to support. — Waterfox ~talk~ 18:15, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose per canvassing concerns, and the absence of need for more project members. If activity picks up again, and it's been a month or two since this application, I suggest you re-apply. Acather96 (talk) 20:54, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- Neutral I have seen nothing but good work from KudulO as he's now called. The "canvassing" was in good faith, he justified it and he indeed did not break any rules. There is no need to escalate an almost non-existent problem. However, the project has been somewhat stagnant for the past months and we haven't got a need for new volunteers. If the need arises we shall contact you. Thanks for your interest! —James (Talk • Contribs) • 9:14pm • 11:14, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm not uninvolved, but I can see here that the consensus among this application is a "Not right now, we'll let you know when we need more help". With that said, it doesn't take an expert to close this nomination so I'll do so. JoeGazz ♂ 12:14, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
