A year (including past, current, and future years) is notable if there are a significant number of notable events occurring or scheduled to occur within the year, which can be accurately dated to that year and are verifiable.
Splitting off by topic
In some cases, there are so many important events in a given year in a given field that the year article becomes excessively long. Splitting among topics may be justified (e.g., 1892 in music). The notability guidelines for the specific topics should be observed.
Fiction
Fictional references to a past or future years are not enough to justify having an article about a year. See also WP:FICTION
