Welcome to WikiProject A Cappella! We're so glad you've decided to drop by. Our scope and goals out outlined below, if you've read those and would like to help, we welcome you to add yourself as a participant in the project! There are no experience requirements, although you are expected to conduct yourself politely. If you have any questions, please feel free to inquire on our talk page; we should have at least two editors with it on their watchlist, so you should get a prompt response. If you'd like to jump right in and help out, our open tasks are located here.

Again, we're so glad you've decided to visit this page!

Goals

Where important parts of a cappella's documentation are missing, we'll create articles. Where existing articles are of low quality, we'll improve them! This will be an excellent centralized resource for people to learn about a cappella. The quality of our articles will, in some small way, earn the respect of newcomers for the genre.

As of January 2020, these are our proposed goals (in progress):

  1. Improve 10 a cappella-related articles to WP:GA status.
  2. Improve 2 a cappella-related articles to WP:FA status.
  3. Improve existing articles related to a cappella music.
  4. Create new a cappella related articles.

We need help making these goals actionable/measurable. Feel free to re-word/propose any!

Articles we're actively working on can be found below in the section "Articles → Active collaborations".

Scope

At the highest level, our aim is to refine and expand the documentation of a cappella on Wikipedia! This could include anything you like. Here are a few examples of subject areas that inspired the creation of the WikiProject:

And here are a few collections of articles highly likely to pertain to our WikiProject. There's a high degree of overlap between lists and their analogous categories. The number of pages in the list/category is accurate as of January 2020.

  1. Shrinkydinks (talk · contribs) — I'm especially interested in collegiate a cappella groups, their recordings and the genre's history! — 01:45, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
  2. Puddleglum 2.0 (Project maintenance, helping new participants. Also improving some articles.) 01:43, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
  3. Adavidb (talk · contribs) – My A cappella interest tends toward finer Barbershop, though the entire style has my attention. I expect my project support will include article improvement, and where sufficient sourcing and notability exists, article creation.
  4. MrMarkBGregory (talk) I am a former member of The Other Guys (University of St Andrews) and ran the a cappella blog University A Cappella UK for around three years while at university. My interest in a cappella has since cooled, and my time is now limited due to work and family commitments, but I'm curious to see how I can help here and what sort of progress can be made. 08:15, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
  5. bosworthdk (talk) I am an a cappella profesisonal with a degree in Vocal Leadership from the Royal Academy of Aalbrog in Denmark. I have about 20 years experience in the vocal music world and know a lot especially about the European scene. I am a member of the internationel vocal jazz ensemble Touche. My time is limited due to work and family commitments, but I'll try to contribute with some regularity especially with regards to the non-North American scene and the history of a cappella. I am not an experienced Wiki contributor, so feel free to suggest how best to progress. 11.55, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
  6. AJ (talk) I am a former member of several A Cappella groups and the founder of the South Asian a cappella community. Passionate about the history of a cappella music, especially South Asian music in a cappella, and excited to contribute to the project.
  7. Shotgunheist💬 17:19, 8 July 2024 (UTC) Interested and a participant in choral and barbershop music.
