Català: Il·lustració dels components d'un sistema d'aire condicionat:
  1. Els serpentins i tubs d'una unitat d'aire condicionat contenen gas refrigerant, que entra al compressor com a gas calent i de baixa pressió i el converteix en gas calent i d'elevada pressió.
  2. Al serpentí del condensador, el gas refrigerant calent i comprimit perd calor respecte de l'aire exterior i es condensa (cap a l'estat líquid) mentre encara està calent.
  3. El refrigerant, líquid i encara calent, passa per la petita obertura de la vàlvula d'expansió, s'expandeix i es converteix parcialment en gas a baixa temperatura.
  4. Al serpentí de refrigeració, el refrigerant bescanvia calor a partir de l'aire interior i es transforma en un gas calent i de baixa pressió.
  5. L'aire de l'interior cedeix calor al refrigerant dins del serpentí de refrigeració i també perd humitat a mesura que es refreda. Aquesta humitat es condensa al serpentí i s'escola com a aigua líquida per un petit orifici. L'aire fred (refredat) torna a bufar cap a l'habitació de l'interior.

English: An air conditioning unit:
  1. The coils and pipes in an air conditioning unit contain refrigerant gas. The refrigerant gas enters the compressor as warm, low-pressure gas and leaves it as hot, high-pressure gas.
  2. In the condenser coils, hot, compressed refrigerant gas loses heat to the outdoor air and becomes liquid while it is still warm.
  3. The warm, liquid refrigerant passes through the tiny opening of the expansion valve, expands, and partly turns to gas at a low temperature.
  4. In the cooling coils, the refrigerant takes up heat from the indoor air and leaves the coils as warm, low-pressure gas.
  5. The indoor air gives up heat to the refrigerant in the cooling coils and also loses moisture as it is chilled. The moisture condenses on the coils and trickles down to outside drain holes. Cooled air is blown back into the room.
