Summary

Description
English: During the Apollo 11 EVA, Buzz Aldrin took two photos in sequence: the lunar soil before he stepped onto it, and then after, showing his bootprint. This image is a gif of the second frame AS11-40-5877 where the bootprint has been patched with the previous frame AS11-40-5876. So the two frames of this gif are:

1) a composite of the cropped AS11-40-5877 frame patched with the AS11-40-5876 frame of unstepped upon soil (only over the bootprint area), and
2) cropped AS11-40-5877 bootprint frame.

The third in this sequence was another photo of the boot print. In both boot print photos, the entire boot print was captured. The reason why this gif shows only half of the boot print is because frame '5876' only covered the soil of the top half of where the boot print ended up being placed. The rest of the area in which he would step was out of frame. Here is the famous photo which is the third in this series (not used in this gif): Footprint.gif
