Added notes

Note that from the map frame, we only see the (red) proper-accelerations experienced due to speed-up and braking forces of the car on its passengers. In the accelerated/decelerated car-frame, on the other hand, those proper-forces seem to be balanced by inertial (kinematic or geometric) forces (associated with blue vectors) that act on every ounce of the passengers e.g. pushing them into the seat as the car speeds up.
The animation at right illustrates that (blue) gravitational accelerations, like those inertial forces in the figure above, act on every ounce of a traveler from our "shell frame" point of view, but vanish altogether in the free-float-frame of a pop-up fly-ball. The only (red) proper forces in the free-float-frame arise when our object is in contact with the ground. In this way general relativity explains gravitational acceleration as an affine-connection (kinematic or geometric) effect caused directly by the fact that time passes faster with increasing altitude.
