English: Diagram of a hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network, the type of technology used in modern cable television networks. The cable signal originates at a regional headend, where many television channels are transmitted on an optical fiber cable, which is carried on utility poles or underground. The optical fiber trunklines fan out from distribution hubs to optical nodes that serve local neighborhoods. Here the signal from the optical fiber is translated from light beams to radio signals carried on coaxial cable, which distribute it to the individual subscriber residences.
