I. Jordan[1] is a British electronic music producer and DJ.

Life

I. Jordan grew up in Doncaster, England.[2] I. Jordan studied philosophy at the University of Hull, where involvement began in the Crystal Clear DJ society, booking club nights and eventually becoming president.[3] Following university, I. Jordan moved to London in 2014.[3][2] In London, an interest began in producing music[4] and I. Jordan co-managed New Atlantis, a regular "ambient social" party run in collaboration with electronic music producer and DJ Al Wootton (formally Deadboy).[5] New Atlantis ended in 2018.[6]

I. Jordan identifies as non-binary,[7] and uses they/them pronouns.[8] On 30 May 2022, I. Jordan changed their name, explaining the previous name "really doesn't resonate with me anymore."[9][permanent dead link]

Work

I. Jordan has released four solo EPs, one collaborative EP with SHERELLE, a host of singles, and their debut album so far. They have also released collaborative singles with fellow electronic artists Finn, Dance System, PLANNINGTOROCK and Fred Again.

DNT STP MY LV

Jordan’s debut EP ‘DNT STP MY LV’ was released in May 2019 to great acclaim, with follow-up single ‘WARPER’ cementing their status as one of Europe’s most exciting new talents: both releases ended up in Best of 2019 lists by Resident Advisor, FACT, DJ Mag and Mixmag, while DNT STP MY LV highlight ‘DN4’ was picked as one of Resident Advisor’s Top 100 Singles of the Decade a mere 12 months after release. Following riotous live appearances on Boiler Room and Keep Hush and a contribution to Resident Advisor’s flagship podcast series, the Guardian also named Jordan as one of 50 Amazing Musicians to Watch for the year ahead.

For You

For You was released on 20 May 2020 on Local Action.[10] Ben Jolley, in a five-star review for NME, describes the album as a "love letter" from Jordan to themself.[11] Resident Advisor describes For You as "ecstatic house";[12] DJ Mag calls it "euphoric house".[7] Pitchfork noted that the album combines numerous genres and compared it to the work of Alan Braxe, Fred Falke, Dave Lee, and Bob Sinclar.[13] Pitchfork also named For You's eponymous track a best new track.[14] The album's final track, "Dear Nan King", is an homage to the television programme Tipping the Velvet.[3] The album's cover art was shot at Dalston Superstore,[11] a club Vice describes as "an east London LGBTQ institution".[15] For You ranked highly in numerous Best of 2020 lists: Resident Advisor picked it as their Number 1 Track of 2020;[16] Crack Magazine picked it as their Number 2 Track of 2020;[17] Pitchfork picked it as their #21 Best Song of 2020,[18] and it also featured in Best Song of the Year lists from Mixmag, Gorilla vs. Bear, NME, The Fader and more.

Watch Out!

Watch Out!, released on 7 May 2021 on Ninja Tune,[19][4] was composed over a six-month period.[7] Resident Advisor, comparing Watch Out! to hardcore and techno, describes it as "alive" and "kinetic".[20] Jordan wrote portions of the album on a train journey and bike rides around London.[21] and took inspiration from travel more generally during the production process.[19]

Admit It (U Don't Want To) & Singles

2022 was another landmark year for I. JORDAN. In February, they released a collaborative single with Fred Again.. titled ‘Admit it (U Dnt Want To)’. The track has almost 11 million streams on Spotify alone and saw support from US publications Pitchfork and The FADER. Following the release, 2022 saw Jordan receive a nomination for Best Producer at the annual NME awards, and embark on three North American tours. They released a series of three highly emotive double-singles, all of which reflect a deeply personal twelve-month journey for Jordan and a continued understanding of their ever-changing self.  “Always Been / First Time Back” saw the artist announce their official name change and step into I. JORDAN (formally India Jordan), marking a true celebration of who they are. The club-ready “Hey Baby” and contrastingly downtempo “I Had the Best of Times” further demonstrated their talents as a prominent DJ and producer. Rounding off the year, their final double single release ‘Give It 2 Me / Reclaimed’ saw Jordan experiment with darker industrial sonics.

I AM JORDAN

I. JORDAN released their debut album ‘I AM JORDAN’ via Ninja Tune on 10th May 2024. Anticipated by the likes of US press heavyweight Pitchfork (50 Most Anticipated Albums of Spring 2024), and single ‘Close To You’ on the BBC 6 Music A-List two weeks in a row, the album further diversified Jordan’s already acclaimed catalogue, integrating elements of techno, house, hardcore and electronica. Lead single 'Real Hot N Naughty' featured a vocal performance from Sex Education actor Felix Mufti, and the album spawned a brand new live show on the main stage at London’s prominent tastemaker festival Field Day, as well as Glastonbury, cementing I. JORDAN as an essential name within the landscape of electronic music. The album was reviewed favourably by publications such as NME, Pitchfork, Resident Advisor and more.
