Background
The Sinaloa Cartel since its creation in 1987 have been one of the most prominent cartels in Mexico. After the arrest of El Chapo by the US authorities in 2016, rivalry between the sons of El Chapo known as "El Chapitos" and the its Co-founder "El Mayo" made the cartel split into two factions.
After minor clashes between the years both the factions reconciled in 2022 to face the rival CJNG cartel. However, in July 2024, El Mayo accused El Güero, one of the one of the sons of El Chapo, have kidnapped him and flown him to El Paso, Texas leading to both of their arrests by the US authorities.
