- Template {{Redirect category shell}} may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- From an alternative transliteration: This is a redirect from an alternative English transliteration to a more common variation. The prevalent spelling is given by the target of the redirect.
- This template sorts redirects to a subcategory of Category:Redirects from modifications, so template {{R from modification}} should not be used along with this template.
![]() | This template is used on approximately 4,800 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
![]() | This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Usage
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Redirects from alternative transliterations and Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from less common transliterations are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
![]() | Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target article title)
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target article title)
- From an alternative transliteration: This is a redirect from an alternative English transliteration to a more common variation. The prevalent spelling is given by the target of the redirect.
- This template sorts redirects to a subcategory of Category:Redirects from modifications, so template {{R from modification}} should not be used along with this template.
</syntaxhighlight>
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect that is a less common transliteration of the target or an associated spelling. If this rcat is used for a spelling that is associated with the target, and yet is not the target itself, then the unnamed parameter may be used as follows:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- or if applied individually:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- From an alternative transliteration: This is a redirect from an alternative English transliteration to a more common variation. The prevalent spelling is (associated spelling).
- This template sorts redirects to a subcategory of Category:Redirects from modifications, so template {{R from modification}} should not be used along with this template.
</syntaxhighlight>
- That will alter the wording to, "The prevalent spelling is (associated spelling)."
- This template sorts redirects to a subcategory of Category:Redirects from modifications, so template {{R from modification}} should not be used with this template.
