Usage

  • Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

  1. REDIRECT (target article title)

</syntaxhighlight>

Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

  1. REDIRECT (target article title)

  • From the plural form: This is a redirect from a plural noun to its singular form.
    • This redirect link is used for convenience; it is often preferable to add the plural directly after the link (for example, <syntaxhighlight lang="text" class="" style="" inline="1">links</syntaxhighlight>). However, do not replace these redirected links with a simpler link unless the page is updated for another reason (see WP:NOTBROKEN).
    • Use this rcat to tag only mainspace redirects; when plural forms are found in other namespaces, use {{R from modification}} instead.

</syntaxhighlight>

This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
  • Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect from the plural noun of a singular target.
  • For redirects that target a related word or phrase, the |of= parameter can be used to clarify. For example, the Domestic cats redirect targets Cat and is tagged as follows:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

  • From the plural form: This is a redirect from a plural noun to its singular form or to a broader article; the singular form is "domestic cat".

</syntaxhighlight>

The text will then be altered to include, ...from a plural noun to its singular form or to a broader article; the singular form is "domestic cat".
  • Some plurals are printworthy, for example the Arabic and Latin forms. When you add this rcat to a redirect that you decide is printworthy, then use the unnamed parameter to subdue the unprintworthy category[clarification needed] in the following manner:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

</syntaxhighlight>

or the <syntaxhighlight lang="text" class="" style="" inline="1">1=</syntaxhighlight> may be omitted:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

</syntaxhighlight>

and if used individually:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

</syntaxhighlight>

This will suppress the default Unprintworthy redirects category and instead add the redirect to Category:Printworthy redirects.
