Usage

The {{WikiProject Schools}} template adds an article's talk page to Category:WikiProject Schools articles and its subcategories. Please place this template onto relevant articles' talk pages. This template should be transcluded and not substituted (using {{subst:}}) because it employs conditional code. Transclusion also allows easy updating of all of the Project's talk pages without having to edit thousands of pages.

The template also employs several optional data field parameters as described below. For an example of how the template will appear under various parameter circumstances, please see Template:WikiProject Schools/Examples.

Notes

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

importance:	Top		The Wikipedia 1.0 Topic Importance Scale values; the NA value should be used for all non-article pages (files, redirects, templates, categories, disambiguation pages, etc.), or if left blank this will produce a status of Unknown importance. The values to the left are links to the categories they place articles in when assigned, for definitions of each importance level skip to the section below.

needs‑infobox:	yes / no		Answer yes if the article needs an infobox so it will be automatically added to Category:School articles without infoboxes or no if the correct infobox template is already used
category: hide-auto-cats:	yes / no		Enable/disable automatic inclusion in project maintenance categories. All values except no are interpreted as yes.
auto:	yes / stub / inherit / length		Sets the method by which the auto-assessment bot will attempt to rate the article. Stub looks for stub templates in the article's wikicode and only rates articles when one is found; inherit copies the values from other WikiProject banner templates on the talk page (oldest first); length applies a crude formula to guess the quality based simply on the size of its wikicode. Set to yes to try all methods and leave blank to disable auto-assessment altogether.
listas:	plain text		Manually set the article's sortkey (name by which it's alphabetized in categories and lists
move:	plain text		If specified, provides a link to move the page to place specified by parameter. This parameter should be the name that the page should be moved to without the namespace. So, for the talk page of "School Name" the parameter would be "move=School Name (Municipality, Region/State)" (e.g. For an article named Council High School (Idaho), specify the parameter move=Council High School (Council, Idaho))

A	The article is well organized and essentially complete, having been examined by impartial reviewers from a WikiProject or elsewhere. Good article status is not a requirement for A-Class. B	The article meets all of the B-Class criteria. It is mostly complete and does not have major problems, but requires some further work to reach good article standards. C	The article is substantial but is still missing important content or contains irrelevant material. Start	An article that is developing but still quite incomplete. It may or may not cite adequate reliable sources. More detailed criteria The article has a meaningful amount of good content, but it is still weak in many areas. The article has one or more of the following: A useful picture or graphic Multiple links that help explain or illustrate the topic A subheading that fully treats an element of the topic Multiple subheadings that indicate material that could be added to complete the article	Provides some meaningful content, but most readers will need more. Stub	A very basic description of the topic. Meets none of the Start-Class criteria.	Provides very little meaningful content; may be little more than a dictionary definition. Readers probably see insufficiently developed features of the topic and may not see how the features of the topic are significant.	Any editing or additional material can be helpful. The provision of meaningful content should be a priority. List	Meets the criteria of a stand-alone list or set index article, which is an article that contains primarily a list, usually consisting of links to articles in a particular subject area.	There is no set format for a list, but its organization should be logical and useful to the reader.	Lists should be lists of live links to Wikipedia articles, appropriately named and organized. Category	Any category falls under this class.	Categories are mainly used to group together articles within a particular subject area.	Large categories may need to be split into one or more subcategories. Be wary of articles that have been miscategorized.	Alternative schools in the United States
Disambig	Any disambiguation page falls under this class.	The page serves to distinguish multiple articles that share the same (or similar) title.	Additions should be made as new articles of that name are created. Pay close attention to the proper naming of such pages, as they often do not need "(disambiguation)" appended to the title. Project	All WikiProject-related pages fall under this class.	Project pages are intended to aid editors in article development.	Develop these pages into collaborative resources that are useful for improving articles within the project.	Wikipedia:Naming conventions (U.S. schools)
Redirect	Any redirect falls under this class.	The page redirects to another article with a similar name, related topic or that has been merged with the original article at this location.	Editor involvement is essential to ensure that articles are not mis-classified as redirects, and that redirects are not mis-classified as articles.	High school
Template	Any template falls under this class. The most common types of templates include infoboxes and navboxes.	Different types of templates serve different purposes. Infoboxes provide easy access to key pieces of information about the subject. Navboxes are for the purpose of grouping together related subjects into an easily accessible format, to assist the user in navigating between articles.	Infoboxes are typically placed at the upper right of an article, while navboxes normally go across the very bottom of a page. Importance

WikiProject article importance scheme

Importance	Criteria	Example
Top	It is expected that at least one article from each country should be in this category and that those with larger populations will necessarily be better represented in this category. Top importance schools will usually have a long list of notable international and/or national alumni (on the order of heads of government, heads of state, senior royalty, Nobel prize winners, etc.) as well as having received sufficient journalistic coverage as is required for the development of articles on Wikipedia to the higher quality classes. This category should be reserved for the most notable schools in their country and they are also likely to have several articles in foreign-language Wikis. It is expected that only 0.001% of all WikiProject Schools articles will meet these criteria.	Eton College
High	Such schools will usually have a long list of notable alumni. They are often amongst the oldest or highest performing schools in their particular country. They will have received substantial media coverage and multiple sources will be available to aid the expansion of the article. Mid	Such schools will have a few elements of more general national interest (e.g. a few particularly noteworthy and important alumni or significant awards).	Gymnasium (school)
Low	Low importance schools are of vital interest to their communities but have no national or international recognition or importance. Nearly all primary/elementary schools and middle schools will fall into this category, as will the majority of high/secondary schools.	Staples High School
NA	This value should be used for all non-article pages (files, redirects, templates, categories, disambiguation pages, etc.).	Community school
???	This is the default setting and should also be used for articles which have been assessed but have not had their importance established.
