Parameters
- class – a rating of the article's quality; see the assessment department for more details. Categories and Templates are automatically assessed by this template, and therefore do not need to have the class specified. Options are:
- FA for articles which are Featured articles.
- FL for articles which are Featured lists.
- FM for articles which are Featured pictures or Featured sounds.
- A for articles which are A-Class.
- GA for articles which are Good Articles.
- B for articles which are B-Class. This will only work if the "b1" through "b6" criteria are also used and each marked with "yes".
- C for articles which are C-Class.
- Start for articles which are Start-Class.
- Stub for articles which are Stubs.
- List for articles which are Lists.
- Dab or Disambig for articles which are Disambiguation articles.
- Draft for article drafts.
- File for media files such as images or videos.
- Portal for pages which are part of a portal.
- Project for pages which are in the Wikipedia namespace.
- Redirect for redirects.
- NA for articles which are Not Articles (such as project articles).
- importance – Top, High, Mid, Low, None. Descriptions of the options can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Assessment.
- needs-attention - "yes" if the article needs immediate attention for one reason or another. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
- needs-infobox - "yes" if the article needs an infobox added to it.
- listas - fill in if the article needs to be sorted in categories some way other than using the article title. For example, Talk:Izumi Takemoto would have this parameter completed using Takemoto, Izumi because the article should be sorted by the family name.

- pref-photo and pref-photo-2 through pref-photo-8 - Enter the name of the prefecture (e.g.,
|pref-photo=Hiroshima
