THE LARGEST RIVER OF INDIA . THE GANGA.
The word ganga means flows . Ganga also has indian and sanskrit origins and is the name of the goddess Ganga , who is the personification of the river Ganges that flows through india and bangladesh . Ganga is the goddess of purification and forgivness and is often depicted as a very beautiful women.
The Ganges flows from south and east from the himalayas, forming a canyon as it leaves the mountain. it winds its way through northen india, eventually emptying into the bay of bengal .
The ganga originated as Bhagirathi from the Gangotri glaciers in the himalayas at the elevation of about 7010m in uttrakashi district of uttrakhand and flows for a total length of about 2525 km uo to its outfall into the Bay of Bengal through the former main course of bhagirathi - Hooghly .
The ganga river mainly passes through the states of uttrakhand , uttar pradesh , Bihar , Jharkhand and West Bengal .
According to hindu scripture , Devprayag is the sacred place of merging of two visible heavenlu rivers , Alaknanda and Bhagirathi , to form the holy Ganges .
