Ben (born c. 2014) is a pet dog owned by ESPN College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit. A male golden retriever, Ben has gained viral fame by appearing regularly in the booth while Herbstreit calls games. The Rose Bowl has officially dubbed Ben with the job title of “Chief Happiness Officer” of football.[1]
Activities
Ben is a certified emotional support animal which allows him to travel with Herbstreit to various college football related work events. In December 2023, Ben met UGA XI, the dog mascot of the Georgia Bulldogs’.[2] In August 2024, Herbstreit revealed that Ben had undergone an operation after being diagnosed with leukemia.
