David Ostow (born 1979) is an American cartoonist known for his cartoons in The New Yorker and The New York Times.[1][2] Ostow was raised in West Orange, New Jersey along with his sister, Micol Ostow.[3][4] He has a bachelor's degree in Art History, Criticism, and Conservation from Columbia University and master's degree in architecture from the University of Virginia.[5] Ostow works full time architectural designer, which he considers his "day job." He has stated that his employer is aware of his artwork and are "big fans." [2] ostow has also illustrated two young adult books written by his sister, Micol. The first of these collaborations, titled So Punk Rock: And Other Ways to Disappoint Your Mother was published in 2009 and the second, The Devil and Winnie Flynn was published in 2015.[3][6]
Ostow lives in Brooklyn, New York with his wife and one son.[7] His cartoons frequently play on daily life in the city, with specific attention paid to different cultural nuances throughout the different neighborhoods.[2]
