Eugene Correa (born April 22, 1993) from Long Beach, California is an American professional mixed martial artist, as stated by the news outlet Long Beach Post.[2] as a professional fighter, Correa has a 6-2 record with an active five-fight winning streak, winning in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 according to Sherdog.[3]
As a professional, Correa has ranked first placed in the 2021 Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (SJJIF) World Jiu-Jitsu Championship Nogi, winning in the open weight against a BJJ black belt, Sambo red belt and all-American wrestling champion.[4][5] In 2022, Correa won by a submission heel hook in 17 seconds at A1 Combat 6 promoted by UFC legend Urijah Faber.[6] In May of 2024, Correa won the lightweight championship belt in the co-main event of the Lights Out Xtreme Fighting LXF 16.[7]
Background
Correa is the son of Mexican immigrants that arrived to Long Beach, California.[8] In an interview with La Opinion and ABC 7 Los Angeles, Correa stated that he grew up in the foster care system and lived as a child in various foster homes within the Los Angeles County, stating that staying on the right path was a far greater challenge than being inside the ring.[8][9]
In an interview with Telemundo, Correa stated that the battle that has marked him forever are the scars his childhood left him.[10]
