François Ier d'Avaugour, born 1462 and died 1510, count of Vertus[fr], of Goëllo[fr], Baron of Avaugour and seigneur of Clisson[fr]. He was the bastard son of the Duke of Brittany François II and the Viscountess of La Guerche Antoinette de Maignelais.
Biography
He was the founder of the second House of Avaugour of the Counts of Goëllo, and made Count of Vertus in 1485. Before the Estates of Brittany, he renounced his personal rights in favor of Anne of Brittany, his half-sister, during the succession crisis of 1488-1491, but these continued under Breton law in pursuit of his posterity.
He is governor of Saint-Malo. He was made a knight of the Order of Saint-Michel by the King of France, and clashed with his father, notably over conflicts surrounding the personality of Pierre Landais and at the end of the Mad War[1].
Descendances
In 1492, he married Madeleine de Brosse, daughter of Jean III, Count of Penthièvre, of whom:
- two sons and a daughter, Anne, who died young
- François II d'Avaugour (1493 - 1517)[2], and posterity.
