Gokul Raj is a new-age indie filmmaker and director. He is best known for his 2020 film Domestic Dialogues and his book Ottappettavarude Railway Station.
Career
Raj made his debut as a filmmaker in 2019 with Domestic Dialogues, a film co-directed with Vaishnav H, which premiered at the Kazhcha-Niv Independent Film Festival.[3] The film earned acclaim, securing the Best Debut Director award at the Jharkhand International Film Festival in 2020. Subsequently, Domestic Dialogues was showcased at various film festivals and colleges across Kerala and made available on the OTT platform Roots by indie filmmaker Prathap Joseph.[4]
In addition to his filmmaking pursuits, Raj published the book Ottappettavarude Railway Station with Insight Publica in 2022. He has also written scripts for acclaimed plays like Vagina Viplavam, Inside a Sleep, Adiyorpada, Eluka, and Maranaantharam, often collaborating with Vaishnav H.
Raj's academic background includes a postgraduate degree in creative writing from Thunchath Malayalam University. His literary skills have earned him recognition, with his story 'GilberPhineshya' being shortlisted among the top ten short stories for the Dhwani Short Story Awards. Additionally, he has provided creative content inputs for various corporate firms, further showcasing his diverse talents and contributions.
