Dr Matthias De Groof is a Belgian filmmaker, researcher and professor of film studies and visual culture.[1] He holds degrees in Philosophy from the Higher Institute of Philosophy at KU Leuven, International Relations at UCL and Film Studies at UA.[2] His PhD focused on African cinema.[2]
Matthias De Groof is an academic and filmmaker whose work is internationally recognised. His filmography includes works such as "Palimpsest,". Another production by De Groof is "Under the White Mask." The film highlights themes such as colonialism and the perception of colonised people on their occupiers.[3] De Groof also directed the film "Lobi Kuna,".
His films have attracted the attention of international film festivals such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), the Festival International du Film sur l'Art (FIFA) and the Berlinale.[4]
De Groof also contributes to the discourse on African cinema and postcolonial film theory through his publications in magazines and books, including a book on Patrice Lumumba in the arts.[5]
