English Wikipedia @ Freddythechick:News On Wiki/Getting started

From English Wikipedia @ Freddythechick

Welcome to the English Wikipedia @ Freddythechick:News On Wiki campaign! If you're new to writing or editing Wikipedia articles, this page is for you; here, we will collect links and instructions that will help you get started.

In this campaign, we aim to write many new Wikipedia articles. However, as a general rule, writing an entire new Wikipedia article can be a big undertaking. We encourage newer Wikipedians to start off with some "baby steps," to get better acquainted with the technical and social workings of Wikipedia, rather than starting off with a new article. These steps will help you connect with our core team and other Wikipedia editors interested in coverage of newspapers, and we can help you learn what you need to compose new articles, review existing ones, add images, or any other relevant project that interests you.

Add your name to our campaign wiki page

First things first...let us know you're interested! (Please note, these instructions assume you've already created a Wikipedia account. If you haven't done that, you can still add your name, but we won't have any way of reaching you!)

You can find our main campaign page by typing the following into the Wikipedia search bar:

Wikipedia:News On Wiki (or the shortcut: WP:News On Wiki)

On that page, you'll see a section with the header "Participants". We'd like you to add your name!

Next to the "Participants" header you should see a link that says "edit source." Click that (here's a shortcut, in case you have trouble finding it).

At the bottom of the edit window that shows up, below the last name in the list, paste the following text:

-~~~~ (Or, if you don't have an account yet, simply add your name, or nickname, instead of the code listed here.)

Just below that field you will see a smaller field called "Edit summary." It will already contain some text; next to that text, type in "add my name."

Finally, click the "Publish page" button. Congratulations, you've joined News On Wiki!

If you'd like to be kept up to date by email as well, please join our email list.

Add pages to your watchlist

Your watchlist is an important way to keep track of changes to Wikipedia articles, as well as discussion pages, that interest you.

Add a few pages, such as this one, the Wikipedia:WikiProject Newspapers page, and articles about newspapers that you might want to improve, to your watchlist.

Whenever you're on a page you want to watch, click the star in the tab bar at the top of the page to add it to your watchlist. For more details, see Help:Watchlist.
