The Marsh Fritillary is a rare butterfly, already extinct over much of its former range, however isolated populations still exist in Wales and these sites have been designated as Special Areas of Conservation as part of the Natura 2000 network to safeguard the habitats of this rare and beautiful butterfly. The LIFE Natura 2000 programme has produced costed action plans for every Marsh Fritillary Natura 2000 site in Wales, planning for the future and helping to obtain vital funds for these threatened butterflies.
