Template:R from highway/sandbox
![]() | __EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__This is the template sandbox page for Template:R from highway (diff). |
![]() | This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Usage
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from highway routes and Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Most redirects to highway articles are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy. See below for what to do for those highway redirects that are printworthy.
![]() | Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect page, not a talk-page redirect, in the following manner:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target article title)
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- REDIRECT (target article title)
- From a highway: This is a redirect from a highway page title that may be a topic more detailed than the target page. When the target page becomes too long, this redirect may be converted into an article that will be carved out of the target page.
- Do not replace these redirected links with a link directly to the target page.
- From an unprintworthy page title: This is a redirect from a title that would not be helpful in a printed or CD/DVD version of Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Printability and Version 1.0 Editorial Team for more information.
</syntaxhighlight>
- This is in accord with instructions found at WP:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag "Highway" redirects in mainspace, some of which may be topics more detailed than their targets, to a list of highways or a related highway article (or section).
|printworthy
– By default, this template tags and categorizes redirects as unprintworthy. Use this parameter to subdue this behavior, and populate Category:Printworthy redirects in the following manner:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- or the <syntaxhighlight lang="text" class="" style="" inline="1">1=</syntaxhighlight> may be omitted:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
</syntaxhighlight>
- and when used individually:
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
- From a highway: This is a redirect from a highway page title that may be a topic more detailed than the target page. When the target page becomes too long, this redirect may be converted into an article that will be carved out of the target page.
- Do not replace these redirected links with a link directly to the target page.
- With possibilities: This is a redirect from a title that potentially could be expanded into a new article or other type of associated page such as a new template. The topic described by this title may be more detailed than is currently provided on the target page or in a section of that page.
- When the target page becomes too large, or for any reason a new page would be an improvement, this redirect may be replaced with an article, template or other project page that is carved out of the target page. See also {{R to section}} and use together with this rcat when appropriate.
- If the topic of the redirect is not susceptible to expansion, then use other rcats such as {{R to section}} or {{R to list entry}} when appropriate.
- Since a new page may be created, links to this redirect should not be replaced with a direct link to the target page. To make redirects to this page, use {{R avoided double redirect}}.
- {{R printworthy}} should be used together with this template when applied to a redirect in mainspace.
- When used on a template redirect, it will automatically populate Category:Template redirects with possibilities.
- From a printworthy page title: This is a redirect from a title that would be helpful in a printed or CD/DVD version of Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Printability and Version 1.0 Editorial Team for more information.
</syntaxhighlight>
- This must be done when {{R with possibilities}} is also used; if the unprintworthy category is not subdued, then both categories, Printworthy redirects and Unprintworthy redirects, will be populated, an undesirable situation.
