Template:R from variant military designation/doc

From English Wikipedia @ Freddythechick

Purpose

This tag should be used in cases where an aircraft, vehicle, or other item is best known by (and the target page titled by) a military designation, but has subtypes that use different designations that are covered in the parent type's article. For instance, the Republic RF-84F Thunderflash was a subtype of the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak, and is covered in the latter's article. This tag would be placed on the redirects of all subtype military designations by which the targeted parent type is or was known.

In cases where an aircraft, vehicle or other item is best known by (and titled by) a military designation, but is also known by other military designations, use {{R from alternative military designation}} on those redirects. For types that are best known by (and titled by) their civilian/company designations, use {{R from military designation}}.

Usage

  • Add this rcat to a redirect (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

  1. REDIRECT (target article title)

</syntaxhighlight>

Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

  1. REDIRECT (target article title)

</syntaxhighlight>

This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
  • Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect from a variant military designation to the parent type of an aircraft, vehicle, or other item that is best known by the parent military designation.
