Template:R to millennium/doc

Usage

Use this rcat template on mainspace redirects only.

• This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects to a millennium and Category:Redirects with possibilities, which populates Category:Printworthy redirects by default.
• Add this rcat to a redirect (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

• To a millennium: This is a redirect from a year, decade or century to the associated millennium article. Years before 4000 BC should redirect to the relevant millennium per Wikipedia:Timeline standards.
  • Do not replace these redirected links with a link directly to the target page. Individual articles may be created for these years, decades or centuries in the future.

• From a printworthy page title: This is a redirect from a title that would be helpful in a printed or CD/DVD version of Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Printability and Version 1.0 Editorial Team for more information.

This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.

• Use this rcat on any redirect from a year, decade or century to the associated millennium article. Years before 4000 BC should redirect to the relevant millennium per Wikipedia:Timeline standards.
• Important note: The {{R with possibilities}} rcat is automatically added, so it should not be included in the tagging of the redirect. If it is included in the tagging of the redirect, then it will appear twice on the redirect page. The {{R printworthy}} template should be added to provide information to redirect editors.
• There may be the rare redirect that has little or no possibility of becoming an article. For these, the associated categories, Redirects with possibilities and its default Printworthy redirects, may be suppressed by use of the unnamed parameter in the following manner:

This will sort the redirect to Category:Unprintworthy redirects instead of the Printworthy redirects and Redirects with possibilities categories.
